Recently the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) posted their list of 20 best places to travel in 2026 and it included Loreto. With all of the amazing places to travel in the world, it is very impressive that Loreto made the list.
“With its historic mission, whitewashed streets and the Sierra de la Giganta mountain range rising behind it, Loreto feels both small-town intimate and majestically expansive – a place where visitors can join a hopeful story of ecosystems recovering and communities leading the way.”
I’ve been lucky enough to visit five of the spots on this list and each has its unique qualities. The fact that the town I now call home is listed alongside these other locations helps me appreciate being able to live here. For all the local people whose livelihood depends on tourism, this should help improve their lives. Of course, Loreto is a fairly small town that could be strained by additional tourism.
While the list is of the best places to travel in 2026, it is quite possible that the full impact won’t be felt after 2026 has ended. As one example, cruise ships plan their itineraries a long in advance. So if we see additional ships visiting, it likely won’t be until 2027. Will airlines add additional flights? If not, that can make it difficult for more visitors.
I am going to look at this list as a big opportunity for Loreto and will embrace what it brings with enthusiasm. It has given me more desire to continue adding to the Loreto Mexico Info site so that it can help all our visitors and residents.
