There are two big features on our Loreto Mexico Info site to help visitors get information they need: the Loreto Business Directory and the Events Calendar. They are also features I feel should be greatly expanded and you may be able to help with that. Let’s discuss each feature in-depth and areas where I could use help.

Before I get deep into this, please remember that there is nobody paying for the site. Yes, we accept donations and have received a small number of them over the years. But the total of all donations received does not cover the cost to keep the site running for even one year. And that cost doesn’t take time into account. It is truly a passion project for me to provide information to my neighbors and those visiting my neighborhood.

Loreto Business Directory

It was a little over a year ago that I soft launched the business directory and it took me some time to move existing content into the directory. Right now the bulk of the listings are for restaurants, groceries and boat activities.

For each listing, it can be difficult to get desired information since many local businesses have limited online presences. Very few have Web pages, a few more have a business Facebook page and more have a personal Facebook page. Finding a phone number, operating hours and an address can often be a challenge. I’ve tried to provide as much information as possible though it wouldn’t surprise me if the information was incorrect. Things get even trickier in the off-season as businesses will often close and it is hard for the directory to truly take that into account.

Of course there are other categories of businesses that aren’t covered at all or are very underrepresented. I simply haven’t found the time to do the research on those businesses and get them added. My paying Web design clients have priority on my time as they pay my bills.

Could you help out with information gathering on some businesses? Do you have interest in a specific category? Or are you a business owner that would simply like to be added? I’m open to discuss any way that you can be helpful in building this important resource. So please drop me an email if you would like to help.

Events Calendar

We’ve had the Events Calendar on the site for several years now. If you’ve visited, you probably wonder why it has a ton of cruise visits listed and not a lot of other events.

I can easily explain the cruise listings. Their itineraries are typically planned two years in advance. Therefore it is easy for me to find the dates and other information so they can be added well in advance of the visit. Those who visit now will also see the upcoming Loreto Bay Welcome Back Party for 2025. Again, information on it was available well in advance.

For many events, I only hear about them a day or two in advance. Because it is so close to the date of the event, it isn’t worth the effort to add the event since few people will see it. Many other events I simply don’t hear about at all. I’ve asked before if folks could let me know as soon as possible about events and I think I’ve heard about maybe one or two over the years.

There are some events that are made known in advance, but not far enough for some visitors. As an example, I got at least ten emails last fall asking when the Loreto Blues Festival would be held as they wanted to plan their travel. I think I first heard a date in December, well after I’d gotten all those emails.

So if you want to help get information on events to add, I’d love your help. If you put on events, I’d love for you to send me information on those events. You can email me information or you can use the form at the bottom of the Events Calendar page.

With your help, I will continue to make the Loreto Mexico Info site a valuable resource for everyone who spends time in and around Loreto.
