On my most recent trip to Loreto, one of the friends joining me wanted to go fishing. Since I am not a fisherman, I had to ask around to help him find a fishing captain. One name was recommended several times and that was “Pancho” Barracuda. I passed along the contact information to my friend and he arranged plans for his fishing excursion.

Their day started out very early in the morning at the Loreto Marina. Once a fishing license was in hand, the panga boat headed out past Carmen Island for the deep water of the Sea of Cortez. We had heard the fishing wasn’t very good, but that wasn’t going to stop the fishing trip.

Yes, they did find some fish! Above you can see one of the big fish he caught with other boats and the mountains in the background.

Even though all of the fish weren’t huge, they were still worth eating.

My friend was thrilled when he got home to tell me all about his fish tales. He brought fillets from the two smaller fish back to the house immediately for cooking. The two bigger yellowtail were left with Pancho who filleted them and returned them frozen in freezer bags.

Pancho came highly recommended and I’ll pass that recommendation along. Should you want a fishing captain during your time in Loreto, I’ve included the front and back of Pancho’s business card below.
